General Information on Water Alkalizers

A water ionizer is an appliance that ionizes water. Ionized water is purported to be beneficial to human health and marketed with claims that it is an antioxidant which can slow aging and prevent disease. Others note that such claims contradict basic laws of chemistry and physiology. A water ionizer separates water into alkaline and acid fractions using a process known as electrolysis. It does this by exploiting the electric charge of the calcium and magnesium ions present in nearly all sources of drinking water. When a source of water lacks mineral ions, such as distilled water, or has been filtered by reverse osmosis, water ionization has no effect.

Why you should not  use the alkaline water when taking medications.
The stomach has an acidic environment of 1.8 and medication is designed to work at that pH. Therefore, the medication may be ineffective or cause complications if mixed with alkaline water. You can still use the filtered water selection on the machine.

Antioxidant properties

Medical studies show that alkaline water has very powerful antioxidant properties, more so than vitamins A, C, E, beta carotene and selenium, which helps to improve your body`s defence against disease.

An alkaline water ionizer is more than a water filter; it is a special type of water system that changes the structure of water to an alkaline/ionized state. It is this alkaline/ionized state that is reported to create so many healthy benefits for users of this type water.

The theory is that degenerative disease is the result, at least in large part, to an acidic body. In other words, when someone's Ph levels stay acidic too long, disease and conditions like colds and flues can happen.

Water Ionisers

Water ionisers are products that ionise water. The water is ionised using electricity running over positive and negative electrodes. This separates the water into alkaline (70%) and acidic (30%). This is exceptionally beneficial as the alkaline water is then used for drinking, while the acidic water can be used on the outside of the body as it is proven to kill many types of bacteria. The acid water can be used as a household cleaner to kill bacteria in much the same way as using bleach.

The quality of ionised water is reputed to surpass water from any other source. For instance, ionised water is the only type of water that has a low surface tension which allows for greater absorption of water and nutrients into the body.

Some water ionisers also come with an alkalinity adjustment which allows you to set your preferred level of alkalinity. This is an incredibly useful benefit which is unique to this type of machine. The NC-10 has 3 levels of alkalinity and 2 levels of acid water.

Cooking and Alkaline Water

  • Rice: Soak in Alkaline water for thirty minutes to one hour before cooking. It makes rice sticky, and improves the taste.
  • Coffee, Tea: Brewing with alkaline water eliminates the bitter taste of coffee and the astringent taste of black tea.
  • Hangover: Drink 1 to 2 cups of alkaline water on an empty stomach in the morning, or before sleeping.
  • Cooking: Alkaline water retains the vitamin and mineral content of our foods that are normally lost in the cooking process. Flavors are enhanced, and any acrid or bitter tastes associated with the foods are eliminated. The "fish" taste of seafood is also removed when you prepare and cook with alkaline water.
  • Plants: Use alkaline water to help step up growth of roots, and promote growth by bringing acidic soil into neutrality. The acidic water serves as a disinfectant that protects the stems of plants from disease and harmful insects.
  • Fruits and Vegetables: Wash and rinse with alkaline water to maintain freshness.
  • Liver, Pork, Game meats, and Fish: Soak in alkaline water 20-30 minutes before cooking. Alkaline water softens (tenderizes) the meat and removes foul odors and the bitter taste or "bite".

Alkalizers And Acidosis

THE discoveries of medical science in the past two or three decades have followed one another in breath-taking succession. The alert physician has been hard pressed to assimilate them; the lay public is usually bewildered. Even when certain fundamental concepts about the body have long been established, it may take years before some real understanding of them is obtained. Moreover, popular health education is made far more difficult than it should be by the tremendous volume of patent-medicine advertising to which the public is exposed.

Consider the condition known as "acidosis." The facts about it have been known for more than a decade. But mis-leading, false or exaggerated advertising has played mischief with the public's notions on the subject. And false notions have had their effect, a bad one, on the public's health and finances.

The idea of a harmful "acid" condition of the body gained prominence some years ago when physicians began to recognize that in certain serious ailments, diabetes and kidney disease, for example,  an accumulation of acid substances took place. As almost invariably happens, this discovery was soon being applied uncritically to a host of everyday, commonplace disorders, and was soon giving rise to such expressions as "acid in the blood," "acid skin," "acid indigestion" and "acid mouth."

So the consumer is urged to "Keep on the Alkaline Side," "Be Wise Alkalize," "Combat Acidity or Hyperacidity," "Relieve Acid Indigestion," "Correct Acid Skin," wear "alkalizing innersoles" and suck on the "alkaline factor" in a cough drop. To add to the confusion of the public, the New York State Bureau of Milk Publicity, an organ of the people of that state, urges the consumer to drink milk because of its "alkalizing effect."
